Far Cry (PC Game Review)

From a cold perspective, one could argue that Far Cry (FC) is just another first person shooter (FPS), probably just better looking. But that would be unfair.

FC is about freedom. No other FPS gives you the amount of freedom, you'll find here. And it is not just because you can drive cars and boats, and fly gliders! It is because it is your choice alone, how to escape out of some beautiful tropical islands: either you explode everything on your path or explode only half of the things… but in order to knock them, you'll face few limitations: board a boat and use the machine gun to kill foes on land; or drive a jeep and run over your enemies; or push objects downhill; or hide somewhere and use a sniper riffle; or incarnate as John Rambo and go say hello, face-to-face, to all moving creatures.

FC is beautiful. The grass moves with the wind, the skies are alive with flocking birds, the water ripples, and the other humans have their own agenda. Sneak and listen to their conversations: hilarious! They might think you are one army! Bottom line is that playing Far Cry is a truly immersive experience.

The closest game to Far Cry is Halo. FC has better graphics and is deeper: you'll feel more embedded with the main character and the surrounding world.

One particularly memorable chapter is the one where you board a stranded vessel, by swimming through a hole in its structure and then manage to open way, to the upper deck, where one helicopter and many bad looking people are waiting…

The glider episode is original, but a better strategy will be to jump to the deep waters.

Immersive really is the word. The graphics, the physics and the behavior of the adversaries are all so great and coherent, that the whole adventure feels solid and believable, with you wearing a red shirt, on a different skin.
