#1) Rocking in August #2) AvP Marine Success

big screen, on a big table, for the 1st time, on its short life :)
Part of Lisbon, as seen from my window... |
YES! I am finally able to resume the regular updates! While most of the Internet is slowing down on August, you can expect many novelties this month. In fact, you are assured MUCH more novelties than the best month until now, including all the promises that still are not accomplished :) As some of you might know, the last few weeks were really hard on me, since I moved away from my parents' home and that meant packing, moving and unpacking many, _many_ boxes... Of course the boxes affair is just part of a complex process that costs loads of money and time. My last update was done from the floor of my new living room... Today's update is done from where the picture shows, and that should - more or less - be the final position for my main PC. So, I do expect your visit tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow... and so on... because August will *ROCK*! |

Beauty queen, on a lateral pose...
"hello" - she said :)
Bring the queen to the trap [easy to write, hard to do]...
..then be quick enough to protect yourself from the big suction! Notice the queen being pulled back, while trying to climb out...
"Realistic" success! |
Aliens versus Predator [AvP] is much easier on the "Realistic" difficulty setting, relative to the "Director's Cut" [DC] option. I've noticed that today, when returning to my computer, after one week of almost total bit abstinence. AvP has been a regular subject of these pages, since 13 July 1999; I've reached episode V playing the DC version of the game, but by the end of the Tyrargo episode, you have to fight a Predator on invisibility mode, after crossing an enormous dark corridor, full of nasties that slowly shop your ammo, armour and life, leaving you in a precarious state to face the final bugs :) Because so many other games are waiting my attention, I've made an option on not insisting with AvP DC, and instead enjoy it in a more "Realistic" way. After just a few minutes, it was very obvious that AvP becomes a completely different challenge... a much easier one, yet very hard for the casual player. By the end of the Tyrargo episode, you finally put your hands on the mini-gun, Marine's most deadly weapon, firing 30 bullets per burst... and a burst is just a click way... You shake a lot when firing the mini-gun, but it does wipe any creature on range! It is massively strong: for example, the Predator that required me hundred of smart-gun shots - and the smart-gun is the 2nd best weapon! - drops dead in 2 or 3 seconds... it is green blood all over the place. Well, after finishing Tyrargo, you get to access the Hangar episode. If you complete this one, it can be said that you've completed AvP, as the Marine, which is a little disappointing, since I was expecting more episodes. This means that I _only_ did NOT manage to finish @ DC, the final segment of episode 5, and the total of episode 6 [Hangar], which I found to be easier. @ the Hangar, you only have your pulse riffle, a single beast to worry about, and a single room to learn... too easy? Not really... the single beast is a very strong Alien - a queen, I presume - that you can't kill, even when managing to explode three missiles on her head and emptying your ammo, while she is on the floor!! The only way to get rid of the final superb alien, is to send the creature to outer space, and to do that, you have to override the security system that prevents the out door to open, access a control panel, open a trap, drive the bug to the trap, make sure that the queen does fall inside of it, then run way to save your life, as everything else gets sucked out of the room. On your left, you have some screen shots of the final fight. So after episode 1 [Derelict], episode 2 [Colony], episode 3 [Invasion], episode 4 [Orbital], episode 5 [Tyrargo] and episode 6 [Hangar], the Marine adventure ends, unless you are willing to cross the BONUS levels: Temple, Vaults, Ferarco, Gateway and Waterfall... Waterfall comes with a surprise - you can only play it IF you complete AvP in the DC difficulty setting! This means a hell of work... |
